Options Courses

Under the category of University or "U" courses, the student is required to obtain the following units (or credits) to graduate.

  • 20 units for the Food Technology programme
  • 18 units for the Bioresource Technology programme
  • 18 units for the Environmental Technology programme

Approved Courses for Options Courses

The student needs to take the following courses to fulfil the credit required:


  • WSU101/2 Sustainability: Issues, Challenges & Prospects (by the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies)
  • HTV201/2 Thinking Techniques (by the School of Humanities). Note that this course is not recommended for international students because it is taught in Bahasa Malaysia.
  • SHE101/2 Ethnic Relations

English Language Courses

The following courses offered by the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation may be taken as a University course to fulfil the compulsory English language requirements (for students with Band 6 in MUET) or as a Skill or Option course:

  • LHP451/2 Effective Reading
  • LHP452/2 Business Writing
  • LHP453/2 Creative Writing
  • LHP454/2 Academic Writing
  • LHP456/2 Spoken English
  • LHP457/4 Public Speaking and Speech Writing
  • LHP458/2 English for Translation (only in Semester 2)
  • LHP459/2 English for Interpretation (only in Semester 1)

Foreign Language Courses

Students can take the foreign language courses offered by the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation as Option or compulsory courses. Students are not allowed to register for more than one foreign language course per semester. They must complete at least two levels of a foreign language course before they are allowed to register for another foreign language course. However, students are not required to complete all four levels of one particular foreign language course. The foreign language courses offered are as follows:

  • Arabic: LAA100/2, LAA200/2, LAA300/2, LAA400/2
  • Chinese: LAC100/2, LAC200/2, LAC300/2, LAC400/2
  • Japanese: LAJ100/2, LAJ200/2, LAJ300/2, LAJ400/2
  • German: LAG100/2, LAG200/2, LAG300/2, LAG400/2
  • Spanish: LAE100/2, LAE200/2, LAE300/2, LAE400/2
  • French: LAP100/2, LAP200/2, LAP300/2, LAP400/2
  • Thai: LAS100/2, LAS200/2, LAS300/2, LAS400/2
  • Tamil: LAT100/2, LAT200/2, LAT300/2, LAT400/2
  • Korean: LAK100/2, LAK200/2, LAK300/2, LAK400/2

Programme Educational Objective (PEO)

The Bachelor of Technology degree programme aims to produce graduates with expertise in Bioresource, Environmental, or Food Technology to meet the country's employment needs for various related industries or agencies.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE (PEO)


The general goal of this degree programme is to produce graduates who have specialised expertise in the Bioprocess Engineering Technology field to meet the employment needs of the country for various related industries or agencies. Therefore, the academic programme is designed to produce:


PEO1: Graduates who are competent, creative, innovative and capable of solving problems related to Bioprocess Engineering Technology at the global and societal levels in the context of sustainable development.


PEO2: Graduates with high leadership qualities and communication skills and active involvement in engineering technology processes independently and in teams of different disciplines.


PEO3: Graduates who graduate with professional and ethical qualities.


PEO4: Graduates who constantly strive to acquire new knowledge through research, continuing education and/or professional development activities.

PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOME (PLO)

There are twelve programme learning outcomes or "PLOs" for our undergraduate programme:

PLO1: Apply knowledge related to mathematics, science and fundamentals of bioprocess engineering to define and apply bioprocess engineering technology procedures, processes, systems or methodologies. (Knowledge)


PLO2: Identify, formulate, research literature reviews and analyse broadly defined engineering-related problems, reaching proven conclusions using analytical tools appropriate to Bioprocess Engineering Technology. (Problem Analysis)


PLO3: Design solutions to problems related to Bioprocess Engineering Technology to meet the specific needs of public health and safety, culture, society and environment. (Design/Development of Solutions)


PLO4: Investigate problems using appropriate research knowledge and methods. (Investigation)
