Dr. Muaz bin Mohd Zaini Makhtar is a Senior Lecturer in the Bioprocess Technology Division at the School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He currently serves as the Deputy Director of the USM Centre for Innovation and Consultation (CIC) and is the Head of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #15: Life on Land under the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), USM. His research primarily focuses on bioprocess technology and the bioconversion of waste, with particular emphasis on biological treatment technologies, microbial fuel cells (MFCs), wastewater treatment, renewable bioenergy recovery, and sustainable waste valorization. Through his research, Dr. Muaz is committed to advancing innovative and environmentally sustainable technologies that transform waste into valuable resources while addressing global environmental challenges. In addition to his research activities, he actively collaborates with academic institutions, government agencies, and industry partners in the development and commercialization of sustainable bioprocess technologies. His dedication to scientific innovation has been recognized through numerous awards at international invention exhibitions and the successful acquisition of multiple competitive national research grants. As an active researcher and academic leader, Dr. Muaz continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of sustainable biotechnology, environmental protection, and the circular bioeconomy through research, consultancy, and innovation.
