Atomic Force Microscope

 Atomic Force Microscope

Instrument Status: OK

Date Updated: 22 April 2022

Instrument Information

Brand and Model: Park System XE-70

Description: Atomic force microscopy is a powerful microscopy technology for studying samples at the nanoscale. It is versatile because an atomic force microscope can image in three-dimensional topography, but it also provides various types of surface measurements to the needs of scientists and engineers. It generates atomic-resolution images with the angstrom-scale resolution height information with minimal sample preparation.

Scanning Electron Microscope

Scanning Electron Microscope

Instrument Status: OK

Date Updated: 22 April 2022

Instrument Information

Brand and Model: Zeiss/EVO-MA10

Description: A scanning electron microscope (SEM) is a type of electron microscope that produces images of a sample by scanning the surface with a focused beam of electrons. The electrons interact with atoms in the sample, producing various signals that contain information about the surface topography and composition of the sample. The electron beam is scanned in a raster scan pattern, and the position of the beam is combined with the intensity of the detected signal to produce an image. In the most common SEM mode.Specimens are observed in high vacuum in a conventional SEM, or in low vacuum or wet conditions in a variable pressure or environmental SEM, and at a wide range of cryogenic or elevated temperatures with specialized instruments.

Inductive Couple Plasma - Optical Emission Spectroscopy

Inductive Couple Plasma

Instrument Status: OK

Date Updated: 22 April 2022

Instrument Information

Brand and Model: Perkin Elmer

Description: Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) is an argon plasma maintained by the interaction of an RF fieldand ionized argon gas. The plasma can reach temperatures as highas 10,000 ̊K, allowing the complete atomization of the elements ina sample and minimizing potential chemical inteferences. Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy(ICP-OES) is the measurement of the light emitted by the elementsin a sample introduced into an ICP source. The measured emission intensities are then compared to the intensities of standards of known concentration to obtain the elemental concentrations in the unknown sample.
