Introduction
The School of Industrial Technology provides a conducive and stimulating environment for postgraduate research students. The Master’s degree is intended to develop mastery of a field and prepares students for the practice of a profession or as a precursor to doctoral training. The Doctoral degree is designed to prepare students for creative activity and original research, often in preparation for the pursuit of an academic career. The School of Industrial Technology offers M.Sc. and Ph.D by research mode in the fields of Bioresource, Paper and Coatings Technology, Environmental Technology, and Food Technology. One of the objectives of the programme is to provide candidates with the opportunity to further their studies and to achieve academic maturity via research that is beneficial and significant to the community at large. The academic staffs have active and well-funded research programmes and students can associate themselves with these projects as research officers or as postgraduate students attached to specific laboratories. As of June 2007, the total number of active postgraduate students is 140 (of which 20% are foreign students).
Graduate students with entry CGPA > 3.00 at the undergraduate level may apply for a scholarship from the Institute of Postgraduate Studies. Graduate Assistantships are also available to the eligible postgraduate students. Academic staff may also hire their graduate students as a Research Officer or Research Assistant.
