PPTI Environmental Technology Students Drive Sustainable Action at MBPP’s Earth Day Xplore Race 2026

LEBUH ACHEH, 25 April 2026 — Guided by Program Advisor Dr. Widad binti Fadhullah in a strategic collaboration with the MBPP, Environmental Technology students from PPTI stepped up as facilitators at the recent MBPP Earth Day Xplore Race 2026 on April 25th 2026. Taking charge of one of the event’s 9 interactive checkpoints at the Lebuh Acheh Youth Centre, the student team transformed environmental theory into practical community education.

The students introduced a hands-on activity in the lasagne layering composting process. The team showcased an Integrated Permaculture-Compost-Vermicompost System. This highly effective technique for breaking down food waste and brown materials was taught directly to diverse participating teams, including representatives from UiTM Bertam, Courtyard by Marriott, Jabil Circuit Sdn. Bhd., Lam Wah Ee Nursing College, USM Penang, and MBPP.

This targeted community engagement goes beyond simple waste management; it is a direct contributor to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By teaching localized waste diversion, the initiative strongly supports SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Furthermore, the collaboration between university students, local government, higher education institutions, and the private hospitality sector perfectly exemplifies SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Through actionable education and cross-sector collaboration, these PPTI students are proving that the transition to a sustainable, circular economy begins right in our own backyards.
