Environmental Chemistry

The academic staff also apply what they learned from their research courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Courses that include the environmental chemistry field in their syllabus are:

Bachelor of Environmental Technology

Master of Environmental Science

Environmental chemistry research at Env Tech consists of the following:

  1. Environmental Forensics
  2. Stable Isotope Fingerprinting

Research in Environmental Forensics involves applying defensible scientific methods to address questions related to release histories and sources of contamination in the environment.

Research in this Stable Isotope Fingerprinting field involves isotopic signature, which is a ratio of non-radiogenic “stable isotopes”, stable radiogenic isotopes, or unstable radioactive isotopes of particular elements in an investigated material. It is proven as a handy tool in elucidating many environmental problems. The ratios of isotopes in sample material are measured by isotope-ratio mass spectrometry against an isotopic reference material.
