This financial support would be awarded to the awardee on a semester basis.
The awardee must apply for the extension before the second semester starts. The decision on the extension will be based on the awardee's research progress, including the SUBMISSION of at least ONE (1) manuscript to a journal indexed by WoS (Q1/Q2), where the awardee must be the first student author and the supervisor must be one of the authors listed.

REQUIREMENTS
Candidates who have received a full admission offer letter from USM for studying a Master's or Ph.D. by research mode, YET TO REGISTER as a FULL-TIME student, are eligible to apply. Applications from part-time students would NOT be considered.
Open to all Malaysians (Master's and Ph.D.) and International candidates (Ph.D. only).
Master's Candidature
Must have obtained a bachelor's degree with a CGPA ≥ 3.33 OR an equivalent qualification that the Malaysian Government recognises.
Preference is given to those who have sent in a manuscript for publication in a journal indexed by WoS/SCOPUS/ERA.
Ph.D. Candidature
Must have obtained a master's degree by coursework/mixed mode with a CGPA ≥ 3.33 OR a master's degree by research mode OR an equivalent qualification that the Malaysian Government recognises.
Must have at least ONE manuscript published in a journal indexed by WoS/SCOPUS/ERA.
For candidates enrolled in a fast-track Ph.D. program, the publication requirement can be exempted.
Supervisor
The main supervisor must have:
- At least ONE (1) active (the active duration of the grant must still have at least 1 year from the date of application) and sufficient research grant as Principal Investigator to support the candidate's research throughout the candidature duration; OR
- At least TWO (2) publications in journals indexed by WoS/SCOPUS/ERA as Corresponding Author for the previous year (2025).
