Dr. Harlina Ahmad

"Meaningful change need not begin with something great; it begins when we quietly do what we can, where we are."

Expertise:

  1. Water Pollution, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment
  2. Water and Wastewater Treatment and Management
  3. Pesticide Fate, Environmental Risk and Ecotoxicology
  4. Industrial Waste Utilisation and Circular Resource Recovery

Dr. Harlina Ahmad is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Technology at the School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia. She holds a B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering and an M.Sc. in Chemical Process Technology from USM, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia. Her expertise covers water pollution, environmental monitoring and assessment, wastewater treatment and management, and the beneficial utilisation of industrial and agro-industrial wastes.

Her research examines pesticide fate, dissipation and ecological effects in tropical paddy systems, including carbofuran, terbucarb, isoprothiolane and difenoconazole. It also covers treatment and resource recovery for sewage, industrial effluents, landfill leachate, pressmud and palm-oil-mill streams, together with constructed wetlands and sensor-assisted monitoring. By linking laboratory evidence, field monitoring, risk assessment and process development, she works towards cleaner water, safer agriculture and responsible use of waste resources.
