Course Details

  • Credit: 4
  • Semester: 1
  • Prerequisite: none

Synopsis

This course introduces the concepts of functions and limits of single variable. Linear, polynomial, logarithmic, exponential and trigonometry functions will be discussed. The focus will be on the understanding of concept and solving of differentiation and integration with applications. Students are then introduced to differential equations focusing on separable differential equation and first-order linear equations. Matrices and determinants are taught in solving systems of linear equations by using Gauss and Cramer methods.

Course Objective

This course extends on topics related to calculus, linear algebra, and common integral equation.

Course Content

Lectures:
➤ Chapter 1: Functions and Graphs
➤ Chapter 2: Limits and Continuity
 ➤ Chapter 3: Differentiation
➤ Chapter 4: Application in Differentiation
 ➤ Chapter 5: Integration
 ➤ Chapter 6: Matrix

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Relate the differentiation and integration problem, and understand integration as anti—differentiation.
2. Solve linear system problems using Gauss and Cramer methods.
3. Describe the concept of differentiation to finding tangents, maximum and minimum values in view of optimisation.
4. Use integration to solve problems related differentiation equations and application problems.
