USM PROUDLY BRINGS HOME A MEDAL FROM AFC 2017

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM, 16 November 2017 - The Food Bowl Quiz team from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is currently representing Malaysia, competing at the 15th ASEAN Food Conference (AFC2017) held here. The team comprised of undergraduates from the USM School of Industrial Technology had put their best effort and managed to win a Bronze medal in the competition. They are Nur Fatin Ishak, Lim Yi Ting, Wong Pei Ying and Beh Yeow Hong. The organisers of the event were overwhelmed and humbled with the support coming from the participants, in terms of amount and quality of knowledge and experiences shared and exchanged, and the sense of friendship and camaraderie established via this platform. AFC2017 received more than 380 abstracts and over 150 full papers from 28 countries from all over the world.

The conference was held with the aim of highlighting significant developments and innovations in the field of food science and technology, while emphasising on food product innovations, and to promote better ASEAN cooperation and integration in the said field in each member country and throughout the region. Apart from promoting food tech advancements and innovations, the event also hopes to explore and provide possible solutions and tackle issues in relation to ASEAN food economy, such as technical trade barriers, regulations harmonisation, food service and entrepreneurship, food safety policies and food security, consumer trends and climate change, and impacts on the food sector. The 15th ASEAN Food Conference (AFC2017), with the theme 'Food Science and Technology: Integration for ASEAN Economic Community Sustainable Development' is held from 14-17 November 2017 at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
